My review card features the new Word Art "Love is All You Need"  I immediately thought of A Couple of Moodies and how great this sentiment would look with them.  For all that sparkle, I ran my paper die-cut through my xyron to coat it with adhesive.  Then I just stuck the circle in the middle and covered the rest with glitter - easy-peasy!

Sailing By Silhouette

Welcome back for another Digi Makeover Challenge by Paper Makeup Stamps!  This week we are re-sizing our digi stamps from the very [BIG] to the very [small] and we hope you'll play along.  {wink}

I made this card with a particular friend in mind.  She's strong in her faith and loves to spend time sailing at the lake.  Earlier this year she had a masectomy and now she's just found out that she needs to have another one on the other side.  It's hard to process, but at the same time she's counting her blessings and not dwelling on the negative.  I just want to give her some encouragement as she prepares for her next surgery and recovery. 

I started by filling in the sailboat image from Sailing By with a light gray color to create a silhouette.  Then I colored a few of the words blue from the Sometimes God Calms word art and placed it over the sailboat image.  I chose to size and print my images large.  I wanted the words and sailboat to be the focus of my card.  Sometimes, simple is best.

Christmas in July

I  used the word art Wise Men Still Seek Him with some pretty Wintertime paper by Echo Park.  The sketch is from The Sweet Shop with a SPIN to make a Christmas card ~ perfect, right?  {grin}  It might be hard to tell in the photo, but I edged the card, nestie shape and star with dazzling diamonds glitter.  I just love how that sparkle adds a big {WOW} to the card!  I cut a second nestie shape in half to mat the outside edges of the sentiment panel too.

Spring Blog Hop

It's time to celebrate Spring and we are hopping with Paper Makeup Stamps today!  You should have arrived here from the terrifically talented Tangii's blog.  If you didn't, then you need to go back to the beginning at the PMS blog and check out the big inventory sale details while you're there too.  {wink}

For today's card I followed Repeat Impressions Sketch A611 and colors from Playdate Cafe PDCC76.   I used markers to ink up the flower from Faith Hope Love and stamped on glossy cardstock.  That gave my flower its mottled appearance - you just have to be patient in letting the ink dry so you don't smudge your image.  I inked up the word art When the World with the wasabi ink pad, then used a tissue to gently remove the ink from just the word "Hope".  That way I only had to marker one word, instead of all of them with two markers to get the different colors in the saying.

Splitcoast CAS - CASwinter10KJ

I based this card on the CAS challenge to make a holiday card with some ribbon and bling. I love this quote by the Grinch from Dr. Seuss! It's one of our must-watch movies every Christmas! Here's a close-up so you can read it better.

The word art is embossed with versamark and real red ink. I used a Labels Seventeen Nestie to cut out the saying, trimmed around it with scissors and reattached it on a red panel that I had put behind the window. It gives the saying a recessed border around it. I like how well the red pops against the kraft paper.

This week's Flutterby Wednesday challenge is to make a Window Card with your butterfly, fairy or angel. I have used the Claire Fairy from Paper Makeup Stamps. We enjoy watching my niece dance in The Nutcracker every year and I just couldn't wait to get this stamp inky! {grin} Below is a pic of the inside. Today begins the sneak peeks for Paper Makeup Stamps November's Release and we are starting with Word Art. Be sure to check out all the fabulous samples that the Makeup Artists have created for you at the PMS Blog, as well as ways to win some free rubber! {wink}

For my card I got to thinking about the Wise Men and how one of the gifts they brought was gold. I thought the Beaded Oval Nestabilities from Spellbinders would make a beautiful gold frame and it reminds me of a crown. The crossed ribbon in the background reminds me of a gift. The word art stamp itself was embossed in gold on shimmery white cardstock and the star filled in with a yellow spica glitter pen.

Makeup 4 the Weekend - M4TW45 Use Vellum

I am hosting this week's challenge for Paper Makeup Stamps and it's a fairly simple one. All you have to do is use vellum somewhere on your card - easy peasy, right? I know this time of year is crazy now that school is back in full swing {at least it's that way for me, haha} and I wanted a challenge that could go with any kind of stamp or style card.

Okay, now that I've talked about how simple and easy my challenge *should* be, I have a confession! {LOL} I totally did this card the HARD way! I didn't even realize it until I had finished and sat back to take a look at it, haha. I knew that I wanted to use the word art Beauty is looking inside a heart shape and I wanted to emboss a vellum background. For some reason I had it in my head that I needed to cut out a heart from the vellum to frame the saying, and so I had to have it all positioned *just right*. Once I got done fussing with that step, I thought the heart would look nice framed somehow. I had to line up the two heart nesties *just right* to get that thin scallop border to attach to my heart window. THEN I looked at it and realized I could have just done a 1/4 sheet of the embossed vellum with a scallop heart on top of that and a pink heart with the saying on top of that! Isn't that funny?! It would have been sooooo much easier that way. {roll eyes}

Daring Adventure

This is actually a card that I made a year ago before I started my blog, so it never got posted here. It might look familiar to some of you who would have seen it in my SCS gallery though. I have the digi stamp of this Word Art by Paper Makeup Stamps and I enlarged it here to really make that saying the focal point of this card.

This card just kind of sums up my mood right now. After a difficult week of my grandfather's health failing, he passed away on Thursday night. Thankfully, I had the chance to speak to him over the phone, even though he couldn't speak back to me. But I know from my aunt, that he recognized and understood me while I talked to him. And each of my sons played a song on the piano for him, as music was always an important part of his life. He was a great fiddle player. Even though we lived far apart, he never missed a birthday or Christmas or anniversary for me and my children. You could count on a card or package in the mail from Grandpa Red. He had red hair, thus the nickname.

So no new stamping from me for now. It's been a week to focus on family and now we'll be gathering with everyone in Ohio for the funeral. I'm looking forward to seeing extended family that I've not seen for a long time and celebrating my grandfather's life of daring adventure with them.

Father's Day Free Digi

That was just the push I needed to get my Father's Day cards made. :) And what's even better is a chance to win a $25 certificate towards more digi stamps at the PMS store. My first card is for my boys to give to their Dad. Their favorite colors are green and blue, so my mind immediately went to the papers from the Celestial Possibilities Kit. I picked this paper that has a busier pattern with lots of both green and blue in it. I like how the patterns in the stripes vary all the way across. I chose to cut out the digi word art with a Labels 7 nesties die, b/c my hubby is a bookworm and is always encouraging our boys to read more. I sponged inside the frame with Old Olive and Baja Breeze to match the paper. The textured blue paper and star brads are also from the Celestial Possibilities kit.

My second card is for my own Dad. I chose to go Clean and Simple with his card. One of his favorite colors is brown and I chose these papers from the Basic Grey Archaic pad. My Dad is a bookworm too, so I again used the Labels 7 nesties die to cut out the word art. I lightly sponged around it with Creamy Caramel ink. Then I added some twill, b/c that seems more manly than ribbon {grin}, and a couple Karen Foster thumbtack brads.

Paper Makeup Stamps - June Release Party Challenge Use Flowers
Mercy's Tuesday Sketch Challenge - MTSC70

When I saw that the second June Release Challenge was to use flowers, I immediately wanted to play with my Celestial Possibilities kit again. I love the colors blue and green together and that is the color scheme of all the beautiful papers and ribbons in this kit. And there's this great little pack of blue paper flowers! AND I happened to have a print-out of this sketch challenge from Mercy's blog from a few weeks ago lying on my table. It was like this card made itself! {grin}

I embossed the If I had a Flower word art on some white cardstock with Not Quite Navy ink. If you have a versamark ink pad and clear embossing powder, you can emboss with any color of dye ink that you have. Just ink up your stamp in versamark first, then before stamping ink it up again in your dye color ink (Not Quite Navy in this case) and stamp on your paper. Quickly cover the image with clear embossing powder, heat and ta-da, you now have an embossed NQN image without needing a NQN craft pad. Isn't that neat?

After choosing which pretty papers from the kit to use as my layers, I sponged the edges of them with NQN. I like to do that to define the edges without having to double all my layers with a darker paper. Although, I think I went a little overboard with the sponging today, haha. It's hard to know when to stop sometimes. And I have some lighter Baja Breeze ink sponged around my word art too.

The flowers were also lightly sponged with NQN to give them a speckled look. And I used my two-way glue pen and dazzling diamonds glitter to give them a sparkled look too. {smile} The pearls that complete the flower centers were from my stash and not from the CP kit. But that pretty white satin ribbon is in there - love it!

I love making these Ghiradelli treat boxes from the above tutorial on Splitcoast. Maybe because it's one of my FAVORITE kind of chocolates. Especially the caramel ones - yum! I used DP from My Mind's Eye that goes so perfectly with Bermuda Bay and Dusty Durango. The sweet saying is from Paper Makeup Stamps. The circle and scallop were cut out with nesties. And of course I had to outline the circle with one of my sakura glitter pens. :)

PMS Release Party Challenges

You know those months when everyone in the house is taking turns being sick with fevers and the coughing just lingers on and on? That's what it's been like here and finally today everyone is back at work and back at school. I wouldn't say we're feeling 100% yet, but we're getting there.

Anyhow,Paper Makeup Stamps had a great release party a week ago. My name was drawn to win the ENTIRE October release - how sweet is that!? I've got my fingers crossed that those delightful stamps will arrive in my mailbox today. :)

They also gave us two release party challenges and here are my cards for those. :)


The first challenge was "I've got a CASE of PMS" to case a card from their newest design team member Randee. I enjoyed looking through her gallery and chose this card. I love how she stamped on the designer paper and how simple and elegant it is. Then I changed it to something fun and whimsical!

I was in the mood to make a card with Trick or Treat Ted. I used designer paper for the two background layers like Randee did. I have this great DCWV All About Boys stack of DP that has these alien patterns in it. I colored Ted with my new copic markers. I tried following Katie's Color With Me directions from her posted video and I think he came out okay. Fun to try something new. :)

I left off the brads and ribbon from Randee's card and chose to pop up the saying. I used a marker to omit the words "Witching you a" and get the "Happy Halloween" sentiment that I wanted. I also traced around Ted's white circle with a silver glitter pen. I like how it compliments the other shades of gray.

The second challenge was a Paper Makeup Recipe to make a card with the following "paper makeup" on it.

foundation: Quote, large sentiment, or word art (as your focal point);
powder: Fall colors-themed (paper, ink, embellishments, etc.);
eyes: distressed look (paper, ink or tools as needed);
blush: use at least 3 layers;
lips: brads or eyelets (or something similar).

I love this saying and have it as a stamp, but I also have the digi version for when I want to make the word art larger and really stand out on my card. I sized it in Word and printed it out on Very Vanilla cardstock. I used a Paper Shaper border punch on the sides of the saying and sponged around it with brown ink. I thought this DP from Basic Grey's Archaic collection already looked distressed and I loved the fall color tones in it. Those brads are copper and give off a beautiful combined brown and rust color that I just couldn't capture with my camera. I think it also has enough brown to fit in nicely with this week's Stamp Something challenge.
